I am working on a project on Android where I want to connect and communicate between my Android device and a Wii Remote / Balance Board. Currently I am trying to use the motej library and the bluecove library to accomplish this. I know that these two libraries can work together underneath Android to get a device connected because I have a test app set up that is connecting correctly (and can send data, I can make the remote rumble and set any of the LEDs on or off) but it unexpectedly closes a moment after the connection is made. I am not sure why its ending like this yet. I am very new to bluetooth development so I thought going this route with the libraries would get me up and running without having to understand much of the nitty gritty about the connection. But since I am having some problems with my current test app I am starting to wonder if I should be even bothering with these libraries at all or if it might be mroe effective to work under the Android bluetooth API to get the devices connected and communicating. So my questions are:
- Is it possible to connect andsend/receive the data that I wouldneed to in order to get all of thefunctionality of the wii remoteunder the standard Android BluetoothAPI or am I going to have to usesomething like the bluecove librarythat I have now?
- If it is possible to do this without a 3rd party bluetooth library am I going to be better off modifying something like the motej library to work with the Android Bluetooth API instead of how it does now with javax.bluetooth? Or is it going to require so much change that I might as well just scrap that and start work on my own new library?
- Does anyone have any clue that mightpoint me in the right direction forgetting it test app as I have it nowfixed? My log output is below, I am making it through the connection fine but a second afterward my app closes without a force close dialog or anything.
- Does anyone know of a library thataims to give access to a Wii remotewith bluetooth that is actuallybuilt to work with Android insteadof just java?
Wiimote sounds/speaker. Well, the problem is desktop bluetooth. No one is entirely sure the exact reasons, either latency, bandwidth, or both, but it has never really worked quite right. The toshiba stack cuts down on latency, so button presses and the wiimote pointer behave as well as they do on the wii (better even. I just looked and Walmart has the Wii Remote Plus on sale now for $34.42, maybe that would be a good place to start Just remember that with the New Wii Remote Plus, using the Toshiba bluetooth stack is required with smoothboard.

Nintendo's Wii Remote may be paired via Bluetooth to a PC, phone or other connecting device. However, the Bluetooth security code is somewhat of a mystery to users. On many Bluetooth devices, such as hands-free headsets, the default Bluetooth security code is some string of numbers like “12345.” On the Wii Remote, there is no Bluetooth security code. To set up the device, leave the security code field empty for pairing with the connecting device.
Start up the Bluetooth device that the Wii Remote will connect to.
Press the “1“ and “2“ buttons together on the Wii Remote. The LED lights on the Wii Remote will flash. This action puts the Wii Remote into the mode that enables it to be discovered by the connecting Bluetooth device. Continue to hold the buttons throughout the pairing procedure.
Search for the Wii Remote using the Bluetooth device on the connecting component. The Wii Remote will be identified by the connecting device as “Nintendo-RVT-CNT-01.”
Click the “Next” button. When you are prompted for a security code or PIN, click the “Skip” button and leave the field blank.
Click the “Keyboard/Mouse/HID Service” and click “OK.” The Wii Remote is now listed in the list of connected devices.
